Primary schools from between the 1960s and 1970s

Close your eyes for a second, and think back to your childhood. Maybe it was kicking a ball down your street until your mum shouted you in. Maybe it was buying the latest vinyl at Syd Scarborough's.

Going to Blockbusters to rent a film or winning a goldfish at Hull Fair (before they were banned).

There’s something powerful about childhood in Hull. It shapes you. Anchors you. And if you were lucky, it came with someone steady - a person who made you feel safe, no matter what was going on in the world.

We need foster carers. And we need them from Hull.

Why? Because children who grow up here deserve to stay here. Near their schools, their friends, their family connections, their memories. They deserve a childhood that looks and feels like the Hull you remember - ice cream from Café Gelato, a day at The Deep, trips to East Park on the number 8 bus.

Fostering isn’t always easy. But it’s real. It’s meaningful. And it starts with asking one simple question: Could I do this?

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t need a fancy house or a long list of qualifications. What you do need is a spare room, a steady heart, and the courage to care.

  • You can foster at weekends to give another carer a break.
  • You can foster short-term when a child’s in transition.
  • You can foster long-term and become the person they look back on with love and thanks.

Hull Fostering is part of Hull City Council - that means we’re not-for-profit, local, and totally focused on finding the best for our children, not just anyone.

You’ll be supported from day one by people who care as much as you do - people who know what it means to be from Hull and to raise children in Hull.

So here’s our ask: think back.

Remember what made your childhood yours - the tiny moments, the people who showed up, the things that stuck.

Then ask yourself this:

Could I give that to someone else?

If there’s even a glimmer of yes - reach out.

We’d love to hear from you. We’re not here to pressure. Just to talk. To listen. To help you explore what fostering might look like for you.

There are people in Hull - good, honest, everyday people - who could give these children the thing they’re missing. And if you’ve ever had a Hull childhood of your own, you know exactly what that thing is: love, belonging, and a place to call home. Let’s give Hull’s children the kind of childhood we’d all want to go back to.

With heart,

Hull Fostering
