What is Fostering?

Hull Fostering is part of Hull City Council, which means we’re not for profit, and we put children first in everything we do.

Fostering means opening your home and your heart to a child or young person who cannot live with their birth family. Foster carers provide safety, stability, and care during some of the most important moments in a child’s life.

Fostering doesn't always mean a long-term commitment, it can include -

  • caring for days or months during key transitions
  • ongoing care until adulthood
  • when a child needs immediate, short-term support
  • supporting young parents and their babies
  • giving other foster carers or families a break

"Living with my foster family has been really fun. We go on trips to the trampoline park and have movie nights. I feel safe and happy here."

Non-Profit vs. Independent Fostering Agencies

Fostering is such a noble and essential service, giving vulnerable children the stability and care they need. But did you know there’s a big difference between non-profit local authorities like Hull Fostering and independent fostering agencies (IFAs)? Both aim to support children, but the financial side of things can be quite different.
