Hull Fostering is proud to join the national celebration of Children of Foster Carers Week (13–19 October 2025).
This week recognises the vital role that children of foster carers play in making foster care a success.
Behind many fostering household are children who welcome others into their lives, share their parents, and offer kindness and friendship to children who may be experiencing a difficult time. Their contribution is often unseen, but it is absolutely invaluable.
Throughout the week, Hull Fostering is sharing a series of short videos that highlight the voices of children and young people in fostering families:
-
Day 1 – Delila (age 6): Delila tells us what it’s like to share her mum and dad with foster children and remembers the first time a little girl came to stay.
-
Day 2 – Charis and Nellie: A heartfelt conversation between mum and daughter about life as a fostering household.
-
Day 3 – Laura & Nellie: Laura from Hull Fostering invites Nellie to share in her own words what it’s like being a child of foster parents.
-
Day 4 – Charis & Nellie’s Heart-to-Heart: A moving family chat about the joys and challenges of fostering together.
-
Day 5 – Nellie’s Sunshine Personality: Our star of the week brings joy as she turns a serious interview into a dance show!
At Hull Fostering, we often say fostering isn’t just something the adults do, it’s something the whole family lives and breathes together.
When a child comes into a fostering household, everyone plays their part. Parents open their hearts and homes, but it’s the children who make space in their bedrooms, their routines, and sometimes even their friendship circles. And time and time again, we see something truly special happen: our sons and daughters of foster carers become role models, cheerleaders and, quite often, lifelong friends to the children who come to stay.

Together, we can keep making Hull a place where every child feels they belong.
In Hull, we’re incredibly proud of the hundreds of families who foster together, from east to west Hull, Patrington to Withernsea, and everywhere in between. These children grow up understanding kindness, patience and empathy in a way many adults never get the chance to. They share toys, attention, and sometimes those tricky moments too, but they also share laughter, new experiences, and the pure joy of helping another child feel safe.
Many of our foster families tell us that their birth children are the heart of why fostering works so well. They’re the ones who show new children how to find their way around the house, how to join in at the tea table, or where the best swings are at East Park. They turn first days into fun days, and make the difference between a house and a home.
We know it’s not always easy. It takes conversations, cuddles, and sometimes a few tears along the way. But it also brings so much pride and growth. Some of the young people who grew up sharing their parents as foster carers have gone on to foster themselves or to work in social care, teaching, and youth work, carrying that compassion forward into their own adult lives.
Hull should be proud of them all, because we certainly are.
If you’ve ever thought about fostering but wondered how it might affect your children, why not speak to one of our friendly team or watch our videos featuring real Hull families sharing their stories? You’ll see just how much love and laughter can come from fostering together as a family.
Hull Fostering also runs regular support groups and events to ensure that not only foster carers but their children feel supported and appreciated. Together, we are stronger, and fostering is truly a family experience.
