Specialist fostering
Emergency Fostering
Sometimes we need foster carers available on standby to look after children or young people in an emergency. It is until a more permanent fostering arrangement is found. This can be up to 72 hours.
The child’s safety is always our number one priority. When a child’s home poses an immediate threat to their safety or health, we quickly need to find a suitable foster family to care for them at short notice.
As an emergency foster carer you would be providing an immediate safe and welcoming home. This could be in the daytime, evenings or weekend.
We will work with you and whatever availability you have.
You might not support a child for a long time as an emergency foster carer. However, you’ll be making a big contribution at a critical and emotionally challenging time of their lives. That’s where the big satisfaction is in this type of fostering.
Additional Needs or Disability Fostering
Additional Needs or Disability Fostering is a type of foster care that provides a loving home and support for children with -
- health disorders
- physical disorders
- developmental disorders
- impairments
- conditions
As an Additional Needs or Disability Foster Carer, you will be providing specialist care to our children with complex needs. Like all fostering roles, you will provide the child with the love, support, and a home to allow the child to reach their full potential.
We do not expect our carers to have all the skills at the beginning. You just need the motivation to work with us, a big heart, and commitment to the children in your care.
As an Additional Needs or Disability Foster Carer, you will be caring for our most vulnerable children. With our specialist support package and training, you will feel confident and experienced in the type of care needed to be given to the child.
You will be fully supported by a specialist disability supervising social worker who will offer you emotional support and practical advice. You will also be given bespoke training on how to care for each child in your care.
Some of our children and young people with additional needs or a disability may need to stay with you for a little while. This can be until they can return to their parents or are adopted. Other children need a stable long-term home where you will support them into adulthood.
As a specialised foster carer, you can decide to become a disability foster carer full time or a disability respite carer, offering weekends, mid-week, or school holiday support.
P.A.C.E Bed Fostering
Sometimes we need foster carers available on standby to look after a child or young person at the request of the police.
A PACE bed foster carer provides a safe bed and a warm welcoming environment for a child or young person for up to 72 hours.
The request could be due to circumstances in the child or young person’s home, or due to criminal activity. It is offered under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE).
As a PACE carer, you will need to provide care until the morning of the next working day. This means it may be for a single night, or a few nights over a weekend or bank holiday.
You will not be asked to provide a PACE bed for a child or young person if they have been assessed as posing a risk to the public.
As a PACE foster carer you would be providing an immediate safe and welcoming home. We will work with you and whatever availability you have.
You might not support a child or young person for a long time as a PACE foster carer. However, you will be making a big contribution at a critical and emotionally challenging time of their lives. That is where the big satisfaction is in this type of fostering.
Young, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children fostering (UASC)
Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) are children and young people who are seeking asylum in the UK but who have separated from their parents or carers. While their claim is processed, Hull Fostering will find an appropriate foster family to care for them.
Hull City Council’s Children, Young People and Family Services are responsible for supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and people who are under 18 years old and do not have an adult family member with them or they could join.
