Social worker week

Social Worker Week, Monday 17 March - Friday 21 March 2025 is a special time to celebrate and recognise the incredible work that social workers do every day.

Social Worker Week is an annual event that celebrates the dedication and hard work of social workers across the country. It’s a chance to highlight the positive impact they have on individuals, families, and communities. This week is all about showing appreciation for the compassion and commitment that social workers bring to their roles.

Meet Danielle, one of our dedicated fostering social workers at Hull Fostering, as she shares her journey into social work, what her role involves, and how she supports foster carers and children. From guiding new foster families to ensuring children have the best possible care, Danielle talks about the purpose of a fostering social worker and her experiences working with fostering households in Hull.

The Role of Fostering Social Workers

Fostering social workers are the backbone of the fostering system. They work tirelessly to ensure that children in care are placed in safe, loving homes and that foster carers receive the support they need. Here’s a closer look at what they do -

  • Conducting Assessments - Fostering social workers carry out detailed assessments to ensure that potential foster carers are suitable and ready for the role. This includes home visits, background checks, and gathering references
  • Providing Training - They offer comprehensive training programs to help foster carers develop the skills and knowledge needed to be effective in their role
  • Offering Support - They provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the fostering journey, ensuring that foster carers have the resources and assistance they need

Matching Children with Carers: They work to match children with the right foster carers, considering the needs and preferences of both the child and the carer.
