Something special is lighting up Hull this week – and it’s got heart, hope, and Hull Fostering written all over it.
For the next 3 nights – Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 May – and again next week on Wednesday 21, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May, some of Hull’s most iconic buildings will be glowing turquoise in honour of our city’s incredible foster carers and the children they support.
That’s right – Hull City Hall, the Ferens Art Gallery, the Maritime Museum, and Queen Victoria’s monument in Queen Victoria Square will all be bathed in beautiful turquoise light from sunset until 1am – starting tonight, on the longest day of the year.
We think it’s the perfect way to mark this special moment in Foster Care Fortnight – a powerful reminder, as the sun sets, that Hull is a city that cares.
Why Turquoise?
Turquoise is more than just a pretty colour – it stands for love, truth, calm and emotional strength. All the things children in care need. All the things our foster carers give, day in, day out.
It’s the colour of Hull Fostering because it represents the heart of what we do – wrapping children in support and understanding, helping them heal, grow and thrive.
And for these six nights, it’ll light up the heart of our city.
These lights are part of Hull Fostering’s Foster Care Fortnight campaign – two weeks dedicated to raising awareness, busting myths, and shouting loud and proud about the life-changing impact of foster care.
We want every young person with care experience in Hull to know: you matter.
We want every foster carer to know: you’re appreciated.
And we want our whole city to know: we need you.
Not everyone can foster – and that’s okay. But everyone can help.
Here’s How You Can Be Part of It
- Share our social media posts – even one share might inspire someone to pick up the phone.
- Talk about fostering – at work, at the school gates, at football training, over a cuppa. You never know who’s been thinking about it.
- Ask us questions – we’re here to chat honestly about what fostering really involves, and who it’s for.
