Father’s Day is a time for appreciation, reflection, and celebration. But for many children in care, it can also be a day of mixed emotions — a reminder of people they’ve lost, missed, or never had.
That’s why this weekend isn’t just about cards and gifts. It’s about showing up. And no one does that better than our foster carers and supported lodgings providers.
At Hull Fostering, we see the quiet acts of care that happen behind closed doors - the foster dads teaching kids how to ride a bike, the grandads helping with homework, the supported lodgings providers offering a warm, stable home to a young person stepping into independence. We see the carers who sit beside children through big feelings and heavy memories, especially on weekends like this one.
That’s why, today, we want to say it loudly - thank you.
To the people who step into fatherly roles - regardless of age, background, or family structure - you are the heart of what we do. You make this weekend feel safe. You make it feel special. You help our children and young people feel seen, held, and loved. That matters more than words can ever express.
This weekend, we placed a message in the Hull Daily Mail to publicly thank you - because you deserve to be celebrated not just within our community, but across our city. You are the ones who turn difficult days into meaningful moments. You are the difference.
But we also need more people like you.
Hull is in urgent need of another 150 foster families - people who can offer weekend care, long-term support, emergency help, or just a breather for existing foster carers who are doing everything they can. We’re not asking for perfect people. We’re looking for those with big hearts, common sense, and a willingness to learn.
When we have more carers, we can better match our children and young people to the right adults. We can reduce pressure. We can offer better outcomes, greater stability, and brighter futures.
So, if you’ve ever wondered whether fostering might be for you - let’s talk. There’s no pressure, no hard sell. Just a friendly conversation with someone who understands and can guide you through it.
Because there are all sorts of ways to care - and every one of them makes a difference.
Thank you, from all of us at Hull Fostering - and from every child whose life you’ve helped shape.
