Hull foster carer Jeannette knows that fostering is about so much more than offering a safe and loving home. For her, it is also about opening doors and helping children discover what makes them shine

That is why she is so keen to share news of Sing for Joy Hull, a free children’s choir that welcomes all young people aged 9–13. You do not need any singing experience and there are no auditions, just a love of music and the chance to be part of something special.

Run by For the Love of Gospel, Sing for Joy Hull brings children together every week to enjoy music in a friendly, supportive environment. The choir sings everything from pop to gospel and gives its members the confidence to perform in front of others. There is even the chance to sing alongside well known artists at future events.

For young people in foster care, opportunities like this can be life changing. Joining a choir builds confidence, creates friendships and gives children a sense of belonging. It can also help them discover hidden talents and enjoy the simple happiness that music brings.

Jeannette has seen first-hand how trying something new can transform a child’s self belief.

“Music has such power,” she explains. “You see a young person’s shoulders drop, their face light up and suddenly they are part of a team. Sing for Joy is free, it is local and it is open to all children, this is exactly the kind of opportunity I want the children I care for to have.”

How to Get Involved

If you know a young person aged 9–13 who would like to give it a try, you can find full details and register your interest at fortheloveofgospel.co.uk/sing-for-joy-hull.

There is no cost to join and no experience needed, just the chance to build confidence, meet new friends and maybe one day sing alongside someone famous.

Jeannette’s story is a reminder that fostering is about creating opportunities and giving children the chance to experience the world in all its colour. Whether it is music, sport, art or simply spending time with people who believe in them, every positive experience helps a young person grow.
