Kinship care week 1

Kinship Care Week is here, and we’re taking this special opportunity to shine a light on the incredible kinship carers across Hull and beyond.

Every day this week, our team will be sharing short videos on our channels, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at Hull Fostering. You’ll get to meet members of our team, hear about the work we do, and most importantly, learn more about the vital role of kinship care.

Kinship care often goes on quietly in the background, but its impact is immeasurable. When family members or close friends step forward to care for a child who cannot live with their parents, they provide love, stability, and a sense of belonging at a time when it’s needed most.

Many of our kinship carers never expected to become foster parents or guardians. Yet, they rose to the challenge with courage and compassion, becoming a young person’s legal guardian and ensuring that children remain with people they know and trust. This selfless commitment changes lives, and for that, we say a heartfelt thank you to all our past and present kinship carers.

This week, through our short daily videos, you’ll meet members of the Hull Fostering team and hear more about the support we offer. We want to lift the lid on the work that goes on behind the scenes and celebrate the dedicated people who make our fostering service such a strong community.

From social workers to support staff, our team is passionate about ensuring every kinship family feels valued and supported.

As part of Kinship Care Week, on Monday 6th October we are inviting all our kinship carers to a relaxed, drop-in session with our two fostering team managers. This will be a chance to meet with us directly, connect with other kinship carers, and share experiences in a supportive environment.

It’s an informal opportunity to chat, ask questions, and simply spend time with others who understand the unique journey of kinship care.

At Hull Fostering, we’re proud to run a monthly support group dedicated solely to kinship carers. This provides a safe space to talk, share advice, and find encouragement from others who truly understand.

Our wrap-around support package, which includes financial assistance, practical guidance, and emotional support is recognised nationally for its strength and commitment to kinship families. We believe that kinship carers deserve to feel supported every step of the way, and we are always here to help.
