BBC Radio Humberside Highlights Hull Fostering’s Impact for BBC Children in Need

This week, Laura from Hull Fostering had the pleasure of being interviewed by BBC Radio Humberside’s Carla Greene during their incredible three-legged walk in aid of BBC Children in Need.

The nationwide challenge saw BBC radio presenters from across the country walking in pairs, literally tied together at the ankle, covering an amazing 1,000 miles between them to raise vital funds for children and families who need it most.

During the interview, Laura shared how the funds raised through BBC Children in Need make a real and lasting difference locally. Thanks to the continued support of Hull FC Community Foundation, Hull Fostering is able to run a weekly fostering hub, a safe, welcoming space where foster carers and children can come together for tea, games, crafts and connection. It’s a place where everyone feels part of something special.

For children in care, and for the families who open their homes and hearts to them, the hub is a lifeline. It’s where friendships grow, laughter fills the room, and carers support one another without judgement.

As Laura explained, “It may sound simple; a cuppa, a craft, a chat, but for the children and families who join us each week, it’s transformative. It creates connection, builds belonging, and nurtures hope.”

What’s so powerful about initiatives like the three-legged walk is that the money raised doesn’t just go to national programmes, it directly supports grassroots projects like ours. That means local children, local carers, and local families are feeling the impact of every single pound raised.

To all the walkers, fundraisers and supporters who took part, thank you. Your steps and your generosity are helping to build stronger futures right here in our city.

At Hull Fostering, we know that fostering works best when the community comes together. The partnership between Hull Fostering, Hull FC Community Foundation, and BBC Children in Need is a perfect example of how collaboration can spark real change.

Here’s to many more evenings of shared meals, laughter, and crafts at our weekly hub, and to all of Hull’s wonderful foster families who continue to open their hearts and homes every day.

Together, we really are making a difference.
