As the nights draw in and we head towards the festive season, November has been a month that truly shows what Hull Fostering is all about, community, care and people doing their best for our children.
Every month we like to give you a window into our world. Not just the big events, but the everyday moments that remind us why fostering matters so much. This month’s update is a lovely mix of -
- celebrations
- support
- proud achievements
- the real voices of children, young people and foster carers across the city
Here are just a few highlights you will find in this edition -
Children in Need week gave us the chance to show the wider region what fostering looks like in Hull. BBC Radio Humberside spent time with our carers, our children and our staff. They captured honest, moving stories about safety, trust and belonging. If you missed the coverage, we have gathered everything together for you, including the audio clips and videos.
Earlier this month we celebrated our incredible supported lodgings hosts. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Offering young adults a safe place to grow their confidence and prepare for independence. Our article explains what supported lodgings is, why it changes lives and features stories direct from hosts and young people. It is well worth a read if you or someone you know has ever wondered if you could support a young person aged 16 to 21.
We are lucky to have a group of foster carers who go above and beyond to promote fostering within their own networks. This month they have helped at events, shared their stories, and reached people we simply couldn’t reach without them. Their kindness and honesty is often the first step for someone thinking about fostering. We have included a short thank you, along with photos and some brilliant quotes from carers who want to help grow our fostering family.
Hull has one of the highest numbers of looked after children in the country. Every time you read, share, or talk about the work of Hull Fostering, you help spread a message that could reach the right person at the right time. Whether you are already part of our community or you are just starting to learn more, there are so many ways you can get involved, from sharing our posts to coming along to an information session.
This month’s newsletter is packed with videos, stories, links, community updates and little reminders that when people in Hull pull together, amazing things happen. Dive into the full newsletter here.
